First and for most. I expected better. Now I don't want to be like every other review saying this game sucks. It doesn't. It has it's strongpoints, and flaws, like every other game there. There is no perfect game. But unlike almost every other game out there, there were more flaws than strongpoints. Now, I'll
mention the first big flaw in this game. Taking care of GF's. G(uardian) F(orce)'s need to be taken care of. Okay, sure. But you need to summon each GF an equal amount of times so one of them doesn't get jealous. But, then, they are only content. Not happy. And your wondering so, who cares if they are happy or not?
Well first of all, they summon faster if they are happier. And, if you need a fire element GF to wipe out that powerful, ice monster, and Ifrit doesn't like you to much, then you've got a problem. Yeah, sure, you can just use Fire spells against it, but it's nothing like the small "video" of the summoning of it. And, when you keep it happy, you end up not using them
near the end of the game ANYWAY. And again you ask why. (What is with that question?). Well, because once you get your hands on Flare, Holy, or Ultima, they cause more damage. Now, they might do 2,000, and your GF's do 3,000, but you can use Ultima, 4 times in the time it take you to summon a GF. So, it's basically worthless. Now, despite that main flaw,
the GF's need to be equipped to your characters. And AGAIN you ask "why". Well, because the GF's allow your characters to junction magic to them, which put up their stats, and a lot to. And, I LOVE that aspect of the GF's, and that's the main reason I use them. Not for summoning, just to up my stats when I junction certain (and powerful) spells to my characters.
And, for the limit breaks. Now this was cool. However, unlike a lot of people out there, I was a bit upset that they put in an ultimate attack which in this case would be Squall's Limit Break (Lion Heart). It just kills enemies instantly. Yeah, sure it's useful when your in a tight situation, but it's just a cheap, and easy way of getting out of it. Now, I have to admit,
it is cool. But I like a challenge, like other gamers out there. The thing I thought was cool was the fact you could use your Limit Breaks a countless number of times when you were in low health (or have Aura cast on them). But when you are in low health, it leaves you completely vulnerable to enemy's, as they can usually kill you in one hit. But, again, when Squall's in low
health, you can use "Lion Heart" a countless number of times. So, your not usually screwed, because that can get you out of anything even boss battles, in two or three hits. You can even kill the second strongest enemy in the game Ultima (beside Omega who's first) in ONE hit....well...one "Lion Heart". Why not say hit? Because Squall hits the enemy about 23 times, while they're somehow
floating in the air.
The music. The most AMAZING musical score I've ever heard in the Final Fantasy series. Not only the vocal singing made an excellent combination for a certain part of the game, but even the instrumental background music did. Unlike FF7, the music was more clear, and more pleasing. And, the musical score wasn't the only thing majorly advaced in FF8. The graphics were absolutely breath-taking. Just the beginning wanted me to play it continuously until I finished
it. Now, the characters didn't look like bundle of blocks, but an actual human, with more blending done. This particular aspect wasn't only in normal gameplay, but in CG Cinema's as well.
The disappointing of this game was the poor storyline. Sure, it was okay, but Square seemed to forget that gamers are constantly looking for a new experience, and FF8 wasn't one of them.
Overall, this game was fairly well done, but I think Square tried to hard to make the "perfect game", but ended up not being able to handle it, and out came Final Fantasy 8
